FAIRNESS
The instructor will assess each student as an individual, equal in intellectual capacity and ability to her/his peers. The instructor will manage the course environment to allow each student equal opportunities and consideration.
EVALUATION
The instructor will maintain an excel spreadsheet grade book, keeping students abreast of their status in the course with regular print-outs. In addition, the instructor will provide timely comments on assignments. The instructor will be available to discuss student progress and opportunities to improve. (See RESOURCE below.)
PRIVACY
To protect student privacy, the instructor will not discuss grades or student performance via email or in the presence of other students.
The instructor reserves the right to share anonymous student assignments for the purposes of research, teacher training, and as required by South College – Asheville.
RELEVANCE
The instructor will focus the course on developing writing skills that will serve students in this class and beyond.
ENGAGEMENT
The instructor will design a student-centered course with class activities to promote student engagement with the material and each other.
RESOURCE
The instructor will hold weekly walk-in office hours for students to speak with her privately. During these hours, the instructor will serve as a resource for students in brainstorming, understanding course material, promoting a healthy group dynamic, and other matters. In addition, the instructor will hold virtual chat hours. The instructor will notify students via class announcement or email if these hours change.
The instructor will answer student emails as she is able from 8am to 5pm, Monday through Friday.
STUDENT EMPOWERMENT
The instructor’s first duty is to encourage students to become resourceful and responsible critical thinkers. To this end, the instructor will refer or deflect questions when appropriate.
